Museum of Science and Industry

The Museum of Science and Industry’s original Massive Copper Roof System was in need of a complete replacement. The replacement copper batten seam metal roof had to match the historic design.

Summary:

L. Marshall Roofing and Sheet metal was selected to remove, fabricate and replace the original roof on the Museum of Science and Industry.

Unique in its design, the museum’s roof is constructed so that onlookers can see the vertical roof lines from any direction along the lakeshore. Its original design landed the museum on the cover of SNIPS magazine, a trade publication in the roofing and architectural sheet metal industry.

The Chicago Museum of Science and Industry is an extremely popular tourist attraction. To prevent any project disruption, the L. Marshall team coordinated with the building facility director and architect on a day-in-advance basis. Their project team replaced the entire copper roof in a safe, organized and quality conscious manner without any disruption to Museum daily operations.

The project was completed within budget, ahead of schedule and without incident.
