Harold Washington Library

The City of Chicago’s Landmark Harold Washington Library needed the main library roof and a green roof section replaced along with an architectural sheet metal installation before winter.

Summary:

L. Marshall Roofing and Sheet Metal was hired to replace the existing roof on the iconic Harold Washington Library. The difficult setup conditions of the project required the project management team to perform regular coordination with city street permit representatives of the city of Chicago, the facility manager of the Harold Washington Library and the roofing manufacturers’ representatives.

L. Marshall installed a new PVC single ply roof system along with unique architectural sheet metal installations details on the Harold Washington Library. Additional work included a green roof section with concrete pavers.

The library houses historic records and artifacts and hosts regular community meetings. The L. Marshall team rose to the challenge presented by the project. Two full time roofing crews worked diligently to complete the project without disrupting community gatherings and before the start of the Chicago winter.
